American Recovery & Reinvestment Act
Transportation Stimulus
|
|
|
Welcome to the Vermont Agency of Transportation’s website dedicated to the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the federal stimulus package. Vermont
will receive some $126 million in highway and bridge money, as well as an additional
$5.6 million in public transportation funding. The Vermont Agency of Transportation
also received a $6 million competitive stimulus grant from the Federal Aviation
Administration for safety improvements to the Knapp Airport in Berlin. VTrans this
fall also plans to apply for competitive “stimulus” grants in the areas of rail
and roadway.
All of Vermont’s $126 million in dedicated highway and bridge stimulus money has
been targeted, and plans are underway to use this money to construct 73 transportation
projects. To ensure all the money is used, VTrans has “budgeted” $137 million worth
of projects because early indications are that stimulus construction bids are coming
in slightly under estimate. Financial adjustments will be made in Fiscal Year 2011
to properly balance spending.
VTrans $137 million plan, which was approved by the Vermont Legislature, calls
for 46 percent of Vermont’s dedicated stimulus money to be spent on projects in
“economically depressed” areas, as defined by federal economic and employment data.
Also, of the 73 identified stimulus projects, 43 of them – representing 59 percent
of all bridge and roadway projects – will rehabilitate, repair or construct municipally
owned transportation infrastructure. A breakdown of Vermont’s transportation projects
are as follows:
